    The names that were filed
Apache, tomahawk, farout, top dog, shocker, & orange peelz

    Easter Safari concepts maybe?
    Or colors..

Except tomahawk, I expect that might be Gran Turismo related.

Apache... isn't that a codename for one of the SRT Hemis? Tomahawk could also be an engine codename, since it's also a military aircraft.

They don't file trademark for code names though, do they?

Orange Peelz sounds like a paint color for either Wrangler or Challenger.

Punk’n was just discontinued from JL/JT. Perhaps Orange Peelz is its replacement...?

    I believe you're correct. I believe its the 392.
Orange Peel is what you get when the clearcoat starts peeling off the car isn't it? I wouldn't want to name a color that.

Orange peel is the lumpy texture you get when a vehicle is poorly painted.

Those are all new paint colors I think yet oddly they are all listed under "Goods and services, land vehicles, namely passenger vehicles"

Orange Peelz could be a Dodge color. Because you can "peel out" in a Dodge with a Hellcat Hemi. :D

The first two sound like code names (and as others have said, I'm pretty sure "Apache" is what Chrysler codenamed the 6.4 Hemi). The rest sound like colors or Jeep Safari concepts though.

Meanwhile, the 3 row version of the next Jeep Grand Cherokee needs a new name.

    "Jeep Apache"?

Although, wouldn't its use be considered cultural appropriation?
(like Dodge Kahuna and, oh yeah, Jeep Cherokee)

I don't think Jeep would push their luck with “Apache” – Cherokee is only still here because it has decades of positive brand recognition behind it.

There's no reason why codenames cannot be trademarked, especially since they can sometimes become product names if they generate enough public recognition (I think “Hellcat” was originally just a codename?).

That “Far Out” concept looks like something they could sell right now… and should.

We've all heard of the Dodge Challenger SHAKER. Now, introducing the all-electric Dodge Challenger SHOCKER concept!
And if there's enough interest from potential customers.............FCA will ignore them. :(

Yes, it's the code name for the 392 Hemi.

Maybe the Wrangler 392 will be the Wrangler Apache.

In fairness, one way to get around the problem is to - gasp - consult with the tribes in question. Though that might be hard: “The Apache Nations are politically autonomous, speak several different languages and have distinct cultures.”

(Not sure why it's OK to name something Cherokee or Apache but not Scotsman or Catholic. ;) )

I do vaguely recall the Cherokee nation being asked about the Jeep, long after the name was assigned by Willys, Kaiser, or AMC (I don't recall exactly when the name was invented but think it was under Kaiser) and giving assent. I don't think FCA would have used the name for the new Cherokee otherwise.

I know the Apache engine was only indirectly named after the nations, and that the name was never used publicly.
