production beats major magazines!!
Group test: Alfa Giulia vs BMW 3 Series vs Jaguar XE (at https://www.topgear.com/car-news/review/group-test-alfa-giulia-vs-bmw-3-series-vs-jaguar-xe#1 )
The seemingly sober and quiet etc 'executive leasing' type luxe c/d-sedan market in Europe+UK, i.e., for now a diesel, has Alfa Romeo Giulia collecting top-honors from TopGear: not just the QV or the TI turbopetrols, the diesels too.
No helmet, poor throttle after exiting a turn... I am not sure this gentleman really should be driving that car.

From Wheels magazine Australia.
Another very good review of the Veloce from the 'usually critical towards FCA' Autocar.
2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia Veloce review review | Autocar (at https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/alfa-romeo/giulia/first-drives/2017-alfa-romeo-giulia-veloce-review )
The Ars Technica guy left the drive mode in "Race" for most of that test, then complained that the first-to-second shift is "a bit harsh" :/
...It's supposed to be! In Race mode, everything is set up for maximum acceleration, so the engine controller doesn't reduce the throttle during upshifts.
(In other drive modes, the throttle is reduced slightly as you shift up in order to make the gear shift feel smoother, but at the expense of outright acceleration.)
There are some journalists that when "Start&Stop unavailable" message appears think that there is a problem in the car and they write about too!
note: start/stop systems are designed to not be active under certain conditions, for example, full A/C, engine or other components needs to cool down, low battery that needs to be recharged, temperature too low, catalytic converter target temperature not reached, ...
Excellent point MJAB and makes sense.
we had 320d a xdrive vs Giulia Veloce Diesel 210hp AT comparison in local car magazine. Alfa wins hands down, comment from other test driver-. "Alfa Romeo is new benchmark of sport sedans". Nice reading Alfa got so much praise, btw they measured 0-100 km/h 6.6 secs (0.2 secs under manufacturer time)
Motorweek had a Luxury Sedan Shootout with the Giulia finishing runner-up to the Audi A4, but note how fast the Giulia is, it posted 0-60 of 5.2 and 1/4 of 13.7@100 besting everything else. Impressive performance!
MotorWeek (at http://www.motorweek.org/ )
Someone who really likes an A4 is probably not going to like a Giulia, and vice-versa. They appeal to different ideas of what a "luxury" car is.
Could you provide me a link? I want to rub that review on the face of a few people in a portuguese forum.
Agree. Noted in the test was that the Giulia is more on the "sport" side.
