My daily driver is a 1957 dodge d200 5.1L v8 ....So my rear end started making whining noises only in 4th gear when accelerating....i know its hard to say what it is without hearing it .

Any suggestions to what would be causing that?

Since im already going to be working on the rear end is there a cheaper option i can do with the gears to be able to go over 55mph?

Welcome to Allpar. Is this an 8 3/4" axle?
The carrier would have to be pulled for a gear/bearing wear evaluation.
I don't know what's out there in the way of new/used parts or the complete assembly.
You have a shop manual and tools?

Yes, its 8 3/4...going to try and inspect the gear/bearings today.

My biggest thing is to be able to drive on the highway without the truck feeling like its going to explode. ..lol
