Awesome... sounds like you'll be doing some exploring like we do. 35's fit but watch the offset, I do not use a winch cause there is nothing to winch to with a 7000lb truck ... I jack-all with some other equipment to go with it, but will be getting a winch with a ground anchor and the winch will fit in the receivers front and back... plug n' play. We overland.. but not in the truck .. we still tent it. Have fun and enjoy the hunting season.

I like what you said about teaching your son.. those rewards came to me on a canoe trip in the grassy river system.. my youngest son did everything before even asking him.. It was like he lead the expedition. May today's teaching be a bonus for you in the future like it is for me.

The ole truck took us camping again.

This is the start of the 4 to 5 weeks that are my favorite here in Central Pennsylvania

The last time we were out my son built a rock fort. 20191020_134259.jpg

We had to find it again. Looking for a pile of rocks in a pile of rocks.

Got out to the back woods again 20191103_134004.jpg

The wind storm we had last week took away the fall foliage with it

Wanted to show my son the fire tower. We had to hike in as the road was gated. 20191103_130825.jpg
And they have a fence around it so we were not able to enjoy the view from it
    20191103_131410.jpg
And we stretched the truck out. 20191103_134811.jpg

    Orienteering 101 (at https://events.dcnr.pa.gov/event/orienteering_101_8864#.XfPAF_ROk0M )

Hopefully going to attend this class this weekend.

Sometimes, learning from someone else helps cement the knowledge learned. So, with the information I gave my son, I hope the instructor can put it into perspective for him. And we really like the instructor, so that will help.

Not much to say about the ole truck. Runs great and performs as designed.

Hoping to get offroad some this weekend and well

My boys and I practice and use a compass but also we learn what grows where in the forest to be able to easily tell which way is N-S-E-W. For example we have a moss that only grows on the east side of trees. It's also easy to see which way is North in the Boreal forest because very little grows on the north side of things this far north. We both agree on the education of your kids, but it is sad to see how this is becoming a lost art. GPS is good but not always available due to the cost and locations so having the knowledge to orientate in the middle of no where is an asset.

Yeah, I try to explain the position of the sun, usually the moss here grows on the north side of trees, we work on the constellations.

The geocaching really helps them learn about finding things by looking for the clues of man. Sometimes it is easy to find them by just looking at how the area is disturbed.

So, I try to show him how to watch the rivers and the wildlife for the easiest paths and how to keep an eye out beyond where you are at so you notice more landmarks to keep your course. Sometimes looking were just your feet go, gets you turned around real fast and in the wrong direction in a hurry.

So we went out again today. Total snowfall was only an inch...but ice underneath.

Explained some information to my son. He is only 6, but the more he hears and experiences it the more he will remember it.

Explained to him about how momentum trumps traction everytime. I showed how locking the brakes will make you slide out of control...also explaining how the ABS and Traction control work and the sound and feeling it gives.

Showed him how the anti spin works and how 2wd and traction control can keep you Showed him how stopping in the middle of an icy hill will make even 4wd useless.

I then showed him how the CAD front axle can run your day if your not prepared.

On the hill, the axle shafts were not quite lined up. And therefore would not let 4ed engage. Of course it was fixed by coasting back a few feet. But, I explained to him how had we been on flat in mud, we were screwed and to always select 4wd before the stuck happens.

We ended the trip when we came to the end of the trail, he made a snow angel and we drove back out. All the way him talking about what he learned.

Was a beautiful day Driving in the woods is always calming. Even saw a doe and her fawn.

So, I still love this truck. Man oh man does it work well.

Longbed is still a Godsend. Crew cab is so useful.

My friend has been having some pretty crappy luck with his Jeeps lately.

He has been trying to fix his Grand Cherokee and then his Commander left him stranded.

We had planned to go pick up a parts Jeep for his GC, but kept getting side tracked.

Finally, we made the trip 5 of us as comfortable as could be on the 300 mile round trip.

Did it with one tank of gas...put 31.179 gallons in it when we got back.

Truck just chugged along like that Jeep wasn't even back there.

Did suffer a cracked windshield though.

Then we went and brought his Commander home the next night.

Came up one of the steepest grades in the local area at the posted speed limit with plenty of maneuverability to spare.

Only pic i got was of us taking the parts jeep over to the carwash to spray off the engine compartment.

Dont mind the flat tires, lol, we only went 3/4 of a mile that way. We went from 62 to 24 in Pennsylvania today...that really does wonders to tire pressures with slow leaks lol.

Love the truck...128xxx on her now.

Forgot the pic. His trailer was so much against my normal comfort zone...everything from the hitch to the coupler to the lights were under my usual overratings...but it trailed straight and moved those Jeeps where they needed to go.

    Still enjoying this truck.

Even the 8 foot bed isn't enough. Still found use of the bed extender.

We have really explored the state Forests the past few months. Found some more fire towers. Checked out some more dispersed campsites.

    We viewed some awesome vistas.

Driving up and down the mountains let you get all the seasons in in one day.
