Availability = Obsolescence applies to ventilators as well as computers. There are a lot of engineers and technicians sitting on their butts because their jobs in medical technology went to China. They will build a better mousetrap just to get even. Also 3M has cranked up production of face masks here.

And probably like Chrysler's WWII production record, they'll make them for less than anyone else and simplify the production process as well ;)

I have read in the past that the vast majority of our toilet paper and other paper products comes from China. You have probably been buying it from them for years and will continue to do so.

So I HAD to go check... the Angel Soft TP we just bought is made in Atlanta. The Bounty paper towels are made in the USA (doesn’t say where) from materials both domestic and imported, and distributed from Cincinnati and Toronto, and the Scott TP is made in the USA (doesn’t say where) from materials domestic and imported, and distributed in Wisconsin.

There you have it. Hot off the press. I think I may have to go use some of it...wait...did I just type that out loud? DOH!!

Charmin is made in multiple U.S. factories. Procter and Gamble just re-opened a closed Georgia paper line on two weeks notice.
P&G largest U.S. factory making Charmin toilet paper cleared to stay open (at https://www.cincinnati.com/story/money/2020/03/20/p-g-largest-u-s-factory-making-charmin-toilet-paper-cleared-stay-open/2884161001/ )

Ventilators: Siare Engineering is a small italian company that is specialized in ventilators production.
Some of its products are commecialized worldwide by GE Healthcare and Philips.
The one FCA / Marelli / Ferrari is rumored could help ramp up production.

    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-ventilators-insigh/army-joins-the-production-line-as-ventilator-makers-scramble-to-meet-demand-idUSKBN2180JU

They are selling the ventilators to italian goverment at cost, well under the pricelist.

And as Allpar tradition has it, we often go off on totally unrelated subjects not anywhere related the thread title.

Yes, but think of all the wonderful (unrelated) things we’ve learned about over the years! It’s like the Encyclopedia Allparanica. :D
