The 2017 Ram Power Wagon, to be unveiled later today, has new graphics, a Rebel-like nose, and a tailgate with huge RAM lettering, along with the usual off-road goodies: an unusually wide-ranging suspension, 12,000-pound winch, and such.
The Power Wagon has a mandatory 6.4 Hemi V8 and six-speed automatic, short bed, and crew cab. There is a Tradesman version for those who don’t want to advertise what they’re driving, which has all the off-road gear but none of the graphics (other than the Rebel-like front). Full story / photos
Lol, glad I drank beer while staying up for this. Are they trying to lose fans with this garbage. Change the grille back, stop with this stickers, upgrade motors. Simple .
You could do this with the whole line up. Update the power trains, people will be back buying.
Another disappointin reveal for FCA US. Auto Shows are just the unveiling of the latest sticker packages. So Power Wagon is now basically the Rebel 2500 looks wise with some vintage Power Wagon stickers.
there's no chrome...I like that, but don't like the rims, grille and should I say the tailgate. The tradesman or ST is a good option. Notice the Power Wagon stickers from the late 70's early 80's... leave those off too. All in though I like it cause I have a 2014 6.4 4.10 2500 ST and what an awesome truck it is.
Homerun for me. Now just bring back the ramcharger and van and have us the Adult Toys again. I think it is the greatest looking Mopar truck ever. My two cents.
Saw a Ram Rebel for the first time in a parking garage the other day. I didn't mind the tailgate in pictures, but in person the RAM logo is just ridiculously huge.
OK.... I'm not a huge sticker fan but I do like this one. As a kid of the late 70's - 80's I loved the TV show. Simon & Simon. That Power Wagon was just cool to me.
I just need to find a reason to justify the cost.

A of people are missing the real news about what is between the chassis and the ground. Powertrain is no slouch either. Shows it's ready for a scrap anywhere. This is not done with stickers. When its in a tough situation eyes will open.
Looks, needs power wagon bumps on the hood and a big brush and roll bar.
I really like the in your face looks, pays to advertise.

Anyone who calls this "just a graphics package" needs to go back and actually read the write up Dave posted. There are significant suspension, engine, transmission, axle, and interior upgrades. Oh yeah, it has a few stickers and the Rebel nose/tail--SO WHAT? ITS SUBSTANTIALLY BETTER IN EVERY WAY!
But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of your rant/narrative right?
sorry--looks like Dave beat me to the punch--point still stands
I think people would like the Cummins as an option. I know it's the only way I would consider an HD truck is if I could have the diesel in it. This thing is designed for off-road use, but it's not a "desert racer" setup a la Ford's Raptor. IMO, the Cummins WOULD be a great engine in this application.
I still think that a true raptor fighter (that isn't essentially home-built like the 'Runner), would be a great addition to the Ram line. Two ends of the off-road spectrum. PowerWagon to crawl/work with, [insert Raptor competition here] for desert running.
Then again, I also think a panel-truck wouldn't be a bad option either. -shrug-
I don't know that anyone was expecting anything significant with the Power Wagon, however, this basic design has been around for over a decade with 2-inch lift, stouter gearing, disconnecting sway bar, 12000# winch, etc. Sure, it's been updated over the years like the rest of the Ram line as new engines, etc., became available. But it's still the same ol' formula. Nothing wrong with that if it works and I believe it does.
With this announcement we also know that the 2017 Ram HD pickups are just like the 2016s, 2015s, 2014s, 2013s, 2012s, 2011s, and 2010s. They all look about the same. That may explain why Ram lost some market share this year to the competition which has more up-to-date trucks. It may be a good time to be buying a Ram because incentives are expected to increase in an effort to defend market share from eroding more. That's what you have to do when you really have little new to offer.
IIRC, the Cummins won't fit because of the suspension that the Power Wagon requires. I am sure the winch was at issue also. Simply put, if it had the diesel, it could not also be the "Power Wagon". This has been debated endlessly in other threads from years back. The diesle simply won't fit, AND still allow the truck to do what is required to be called a Power Wagon. The Cummins is too tall and too long (cmiiaw).
Yup, I think the last time I looked up the Power Wagon, during the Daimler days, they said the Cummins I6 was too heavy.
This truck looks pretty cool. I like graphics/lettering to a certain extent, other than a full body wrap of graphics some vehicles have. That "splash" they had on the truck in previous years was gross. I like the vertical stripe with the "Power Wagon" lettering however. And regardless of what some of the article writers say, I like the imprinted tire tread on the seats. Bonus!!!
The Power Wagon in it's current form is way more then a sticker package. With that said, if you already have one of the best trucks, then it's very hard to raise the bar. Super Duty Fords are a prime example. Body wise they have been the same since what, 1998? But with new interiors, engines, transmissions, new grilles etc. They manage to keep what is a way older design then Ram competitive.
I belive to the contrary. Dodge should stay away from a Raptor competitor. Even if they coudl do it better, and for many of hte reasons already mentioned. Ask yourself one question? Why did Ford build the Raptor in the first place? Answer? Because they could not build a truck that was as good as the Power Wagon. They built the Raptor the way they did, becaue they knew if they built it as a PW competitor, it would be considered worse.
The Power Wagon, has been, and will contiue to be the premier off road truck from the big four. The only problem is that nobody outside the die hard Moparians, even know what the heck it is. This introduction, I belive intends to change all that, in my opinion. And, I think that the resemblance to the same model used in the Simon&Simon TV show was completley intentional.
I hope that Pietro Gorleir, and his Mopar team, will have the parts available to make it into a full Simon&Simon replica. That truck, or really those trrucks, had a lot to do with why I am a big fan of Ram Trucks. I think the folks at Ram know that, too.

No one here is saying the PowerWagon is just a sticker package. People are saying they are upset that Ram did a "launch" for virtually unchanged product. It's a new grille and new stickers for a truck thats been largely unchanged since 2012
The image they showed during the live reveal showed the Tradesman Power Wagon with a standard black crosshair grille - not the Rebel grille.
The POWER WAGON side graphics are a nod to the 79-80 Power Wagon, and to the Power Wagon that starred in the "Simon & Simon" TV show.
As I recall, Power Wagons always had that "Power Wagon" badging on the tailgate. At least the ones I recall seeing did.
I've not had the time to sift thru the promo material and compare specs between '16 and '17 models. What I took away is that with Rebel, the 4x4 Off-Road package, and the Power Wagon, they now have a "family" of off-road pickups - and Ram wants to be the leader in that category.
I think the reason for the launch was to give hte Power Wagon a fresh start. In spite of the thing being so good, in spite of the thing being in all the magazines, and in spite of all those magazines (the off road ones at least) lavishing praise on it, it still has zero presence in the larger truck enthusiasts' eyes.
Why did they do a "launch" for a vehicle that is updated cosmetically, and had no capability upgrades?
Because it hadn't really ever been launched. Think of it as the "LAUNCH" for the new Power Wagon, but ten years late. To us Allparites, it is is cool, but not really that big a deal.
To truck folks who think this is a "Power Wagon" (see link below), this launch is a fairly big deal.
It makes sense to me, we already know they are doubling down on Ram, Jeep, CUVs, and niched profitable vehicles (Challenger, Charger, minivan, etc). Now they can have the Power Wagon and baby PW (Rebel), side by side in the dealerships, and have a formidable off road truck lineup (especially with the new Jeep truck).
Not sure what people want. A 426 HEMI?
