The casual observer probably wouldn't be able to tell it from a 2020 and that's not a bad thing IMO

It's not necessarily a bad thing, but it also means the vehicle may not get it's due because it looks too much like the old one. If this indeed what it looks like.

Headlights are ok, but the c-pillar, overall squareness, and bumper are off; same with the lower body detail being as chiseled.

Headlight housing shape is different on WL than WK, but I had no details on the internal design so I kept a similar LED signature.

AFAIK what should be wrong with both designs, yours and his, are proportions. New Grand Cherokee should have very apparent RWD look.

You did great! Its just gonna be difficult to take the wk2 and transform it to the WL. To the untrained eye(like me..lol) its very similar but its really totally new.

The WK2 looks more like a jellybean than the WL.

My question is branding. Sure, every Jeep has a 7 slot grille, but why don't all Jeeps conform to the 7 slot grille and round headlight look, more like the original WK and Liberty did?

Grand Cherokee and Compass IMO have the ideal front end look.

I wouldn't like round headlights on a vehicle. It works on a Wrangler (and Challenger, obviously), but on everything else it has too much of a "cute" appearance.

With the exception of the Imperial/New Yorker from 74 to 78 the rest of the C bodies were just missing something. My favorite fuselage model was the 72 Imperial.

That depends on execution and styling approach. Was true on a Liberty, but not on a Wrangler. WK made it not cute, probably because it was "pseudo-round."
