...hear me out on this, as I do kind of agree on some of these comments...

This is where the moving away from the crosshairs *may* make it harder to instantly tell it's a Ram. With the crosshair grille, it was very obvious as to what it was. No one else had a crosshair grille.

The "RAM" grille in those spyshots looks a bit too generic IMO, and could easily be mistaken as a variety of other trucks, like a Tundra, GMC, etc. These are horizontal grille designs with a badge stuck in the middle. As well, Ford is also putting those "nostrils" on the front of it's trucks.

I wonder too how many people will miss the "horns" that run across the top of the grille/hood?

    Again, this is all IMHO.

Hopefully, the different trims and final versions we see very soon will change my opinion on that. That is not to say that I don't doubt that this truck will look fantastic. @redriderbob I definitely see the similarities to the '97-'04 Dakota on the sides, and I'm a fan of that. But I do have to admit I prefer the crosshair grille on that drawing that @oh2o posted publicly recently.

    Huh?

Was anyone alive in the 70s, 80s and most of the 90s? All 3 brands of trucks looked basically the same. With only minor styling differences that set them apart...most notably the BRAND BADGE. But I never heard anyone complain about their brand looking like another. Those were the only days that I could honestly find each brand attractive. Not an ugly one in the bunch. People bought trucks for different reasons back then I guess.
Wasn’t a big difference in looks until Dodge made the radical change in the 90s..ironically to resemble even older trucks of the past...to yet another period when trucks looked basically the same..wow. Some would say they resembled a big rig...which all look the same. Huh, there’s a pattern here.

Even though we’ve NEVER had it better as car/truck enthusiasts as we do right now, with amazing products at our disposal, We sure have become a spoiled, fickle, knit picky bunch. I know, I’m guilty too. ;)

But yep, the DT actually resembles the Tundra...by the simple fact that they both look like a truck. :)

    Surprisingly enough, no.

And I know how dumb that sounds.

I perfered that too... however... after seeing the mules running and seeing truck in person... it was one of those it took me three times because its missing the crosshair to really love the truck. Now when I see DTs out and about... I think its classy looking. I don't doubt if Mopar doesn't offer a crosshair grille as an aftermarket, the aftermarket companies will.

we've only seen 2 grilles and 2 sets of headlights. I think they have a bit more to show when the time comes. I'll be waiting (somewhat impatiently) for them to show 'em off on the stage :)

I do love the horns look of the new grille though... it was time for a change.

I think that the Dodge, GM and Ford pickups of the 70s did not look alike. Lots of subtle differences. Very easy to pick them out at a distance. The differences were spread out among the entire truck. Headlights, body lines, body details, tail lights, grill, mirrors, etc.
Due to aerodynamics today's trucks have been forced into limiting certain detailed differences in part causing the exaggerated grills present on most new trucks.

I agree, design has evolved as necessary and we got what we got, but thats not my point. You actually made my point in your first 5 sentences and agree totally with you. The exact same thing can be said right now. Its just that our extreme fickleness, pickiness and our nature to overanylize things is showing....people were different back then and if those people were snatched up and shot through time to this very day and all the various current trucks were lined up in front of them, they would repeat your first 5 sentences. People largely appreciated the subtle differences and overlooked the subtle similarities and the fact that they all had the same basic overall look.

If we applied our CURRENT mind numbingly picky attitudes to these old trucks, our heads would explode.
Dodge and Chevy have the same mirrors SMH..My God they look like Twinkies!
Chevy copied the Dodge roof SMH..Im not buying nuthin that looks like a Chevy!!
They all have the same dang grilles! They are all slotted the same and rectangular....SMH..WTH!! Where’s the originality??
Those wheels are identical..SMH...I swear if I saw that Ford coming down the road, I would have thought it was a Dodge...or a Chevy.
Why do they all have the same bumpers!?!? SMH, I swear I ain’t driving nothing that looks like a Chevy..or a Ford...or a Dodge.
OMG Ford blatantly ripped off that sloped hood front end from Dodge! Nope WAY too much Ford in that Dodge. Imma pass.
The Dodge totally stole the round headlights from Ford. Looks like a Ford, I ain’t doing it.
Why did Dodge have to go and put a silver body line accents on there for!???!?! Maybe if it didnt look just like a Chevy...and a Ford I’d drive it.
If that Chevy didnt have a silver grille and look just like a Dodge..or a Ford, I’d be in...but I’ll PASS.
Nope Chevy done went and stole the gas cap from Dodge, looks exactly like a Dodge now. Ford here I come!
All the tail lights are RED!! Naw man screw that! ...dang I wish Toyota built a half ton.
Ah Hail no! Ford totally copied the Chevy wing window. Guess Dodge is the only original design.
Holy!! Ford ripped off the Chevy hood bulge and stole the Dodge fender flare. Looks like Chodge!!!

    Thats my point.....

I do have to say, even though I am a diehard Mopar fan those late 70s Fords with the 460s are some of the best hardcore performing trucks ever... when it comes to truck pulls. It hard not to go to a pull and not see one of them win.

Best looking truck of 1979 though... Jeep J10... always been an SJ guy... technically its a Mopar!

It looks like you can stick a hand under the plastic on the corner of the bumpers

Cant say that J10 wasnt original. But good Lord, if It was added to the lineup with the other 3 to be magically scrutinized as new trucks by todays crowd, they’d see some wacky amalgamation of a Ford/Chevy hybrid abomination. Book it.

Really? Easier to tell it’s a ram if it has a crosshairs grill than if it says R A M ?

You mean the shadows? Why I like my sport over the slt. If I could get pics to load I would show you shadows in chrome. Curious how you could go right to bad body gaps and not even think shadow? Unless you aren't referencing the new straight on shot and are picking this apart.
