Understand about hindsight........but one must wonder just how things would have played out had Chad stayed.....

Knaus had been a protege of Ray Evernham's over @ Hendrick's. Interestingly enough, Evernham didn't think enough of him to put him on his own team or maybe Atwood wouldn't have been such a bust.

Knaus was never thought to be a good team player back in the day - he apparently wanted too much out of everyone and no one really liked/appreciated his style.

Heck, even ol' Jimmie and Chad didn't see eye to eye in the beginning - recall the famous "Milk 'n Cookies" coming-of-age meeting they had with Mr. Hendrick.

I doubt JJ or Chad would be as successful apart as they are together. Like it or not, those two make each other better.

Now if Jeff Gordon had followed Evernham to Dodge (as he was apparently really close to doing until he understandably decided to stay loyal) and paired him with Knaus, who knows? :)

Don't know if you guys ever saw these T-shirts. If you remember the hip hop song "Who Let the Dogs Out" by the Baha Men this was a takeoff on that song. Arrington Racing had a bunch made. IMG_1086.JPG

They probably could sell quite a few if they now change the wording to "Who TOOK the Dodges out"

Don't know whether this was an official Dodge publicity photo or not (shared from Pinterest), but 2001 seems like such an eternity ago that I can't even remember who all the drivers that are shown were.

    Here's my best guess, L to R...........

    C Atwood

    Ward Burton

    John Andretti

    Sterlin' Marlin

    Bill Elliot

    Stacey Compton

    ?

    Dave Blaney

    ?

Since Jason Leffler lost his life within the past few years, you could say the late Jason Leffler. Was sorry to hear he died rather young - in an auto racing accident.

Whatever nose they used, they sure knew how to integrate them into their performance ads (back when Dodge knew how to really market "Performance").

It wasn't official, but the car before the charger looked a whole lot like a stratus coupe - almost the exact some grill configuration.

I'm at the airport, but I'll try to find a photo when I land.

Like I said above the #45 car of Petty was a Stratus for 2003 and 2004.

Interesting. The actual grille clearly resembles that of the Stratus, but it's the decals that throw people off. Those are clearly Intrepid headlights, as are the lower front bumper "openings". You forget some of the year-to-year changes until you see the cars side by side. I completely forgot that the Avenger ran in the Cup series for while too!

The 2004 headlamp decals are clearly from the Stratus. I always thought these cars looked really good on the track. I don't remember ever hearing it being called a "Stratus" on the track, rather it was always refered to as a "Dodge".

Yes, those clearly are, but those aren't the decals on the 45 in the earlier picture...
