So, after three years from selling my Blue Streak 2012 Challenger SRT 392 6-speed, I am now seriously looking at a White Knuckle 2016 Challenger R/T Scat Pack 6-speed.

The Dodge has < 8,000 miles, Technology Group, Driver Convenience Group, Leather Group, Power sunroof, navigation, premium sound, and black painted wheels.

The vehicle is being transported from a store in a neighboring state. I don’t want to jinx it: if everything goes well, I should be able to see it and test drive in 10 days or so.

    Questions:

    1. From everything I read, it seems the although the Scat Pack suspension is not dual mode like that in SRTs, it does feels well planted and comfortable. Yay or nay?
    2. Several magazines wrote that the active exhaust on the Scat Pack sounds great, but they had to try real hard not to wake up the neighborhood. Is the Scat Pack exhaust that much louder than that on SRTs?

I can't speak to the Scat Pack, but I'm 90% sure if I ever buy another Challenger (and I really want one) I'll buy gently used because they don't hold value like they used to and they won't sell me a new one with the options/colors I want.

    Good luck, look nice!

    Thanks!

Indeed. This particular one with only 7,800 miles is listed at $12,000 below MSRP. Which means the first owner must have gotten $15,000-$20,000 below MSRP in trade-in value. Granted this is the lowest priced one I found with the equipment I was looking for.

From what I saw, SRTs seem to hold their value better than most; vehicles with 6.4s better than 5.7s, and 5.7s better than V6s.

I found several NEW Hellcats listed for $10,000 off MSRP! That reveals the weakness of the Dodge brand sustaining $60,000+ prices after the novelty wears off; and is a reminder of the short shelf life of selling on "performance".

And that people will quickly more to the next big thing - Demon and Trackhawk being the next big things now.
What happens when the next big thing is a non-FCA product?

Yup. Plus what happens when the next big thing is another FCA product? I suspect a key reason Hellcats are now $10,000 off is because of Demon.

    I just saw a ChallengerTalk.com forum member cross-shopping a Challenger 392 and a Trackhawk.

Then there is a new GT500 in the works, etc.

1- Scat Pack Challenger has pre-2012 SRT suspension.
2- The stock exhaust is moderate. Louder than pre-2015, but being noise-polluting does depends on your neighborhood and the police officer.
I did switch to GTHaus Catback because the stick exhaust was loud enough for my ears.

I will have to watch out for that exhaust then. I swapped the stock exhaust on my 2012 SRT to Solo Performance catbacks, arguably the best aftermarket catbacks for that model, only to have to bring it back to stock due to the noise on my aging ears.

Thank you for the heads up.

Can’t attest to Scatpack, I have a 17 392 Daytona. The exhaust is loud. When my wife borrows the car, The sound from the house of her backing out and driving away is, let’s say noticeable. I wished the offered a good neighbor mode. It was pointed out to me that much louder cars scream up and down my street, so I don’t feel too bad. I’ve tried pulling the active exhaust fuse before start up to no avail. When I take it out of storage, I’ll try to wait for the car to run and quiet down and pull it then.

I traded a 2010 SRT8 for my '15 Scat Pack and am very happy.

The more reviews I read on Scat Pack, the more excited I am!

I've had mine for 3 months. Scat pack with the A8, and I love it. It is the 1st challenger I've ever owned.

Mine is not well equipped, basically a stripper model but the stock suspension feels good on it.

Only complaint is the 245 tires, they are long gone:D

Since the Scat Pack in '15 was essentially the previous SRT8 with the updated interior and exterior, I never noticed any handling difference. It's louder though.

He's right about the 245 tires. It's very hard to get the power down and if the tires and/or road are cold, you need to be very careful.

Yeah, I wasn’t impressed with the Goodyear F1 Supercar tires that came stock on my 2012 SRT, either: they punctured easily —which is a big deal on a car that doesn’t carry a spare tire; and were horrible on anything but perfectly dry roads. So I swapped to Falken Azenis: I was very happy with them.

So what tires did you guys get?

I still have the factory Goodyear on my Challenger.
But when I had my Charger, I ran 2 sets of Hancock Ventus V2 and I sold it while it had Nitto.
I do like Nitto for the grip but I don’t like it because of the speed rating.

I just replaced the rears with some Atturo AS 850, 275/40. It's a cheap tire but it does manage to bite the road a little.

Did the 275s fit the 9-inch wide rims well?

    Yes
It's the same size tire as the SRT comes with.
