If you ordered the right Mopar from the factory, you got one of these in your glovebox....................

Jack Werst was a Chrysler Warranty Service Administrator who ran a whole series of race cars with a factory deal. To tie in with Chrysler's warranty, his cars were tagged with "Mr 5 & 50".

After the A990 package car came this SS/BA Street Hemi car . Notice that his early Hemis were built by Bill Jenkins shop.

Then came a '68 SS 'Cuda which he converted to a Pro Stocker in 1970.

In 1971 Werst had a Pro Stock 'Cuda built specifically for that class.

According to an interview Werst gave to HRM some years ago, he quit Pro Stock when the anti-Mopar weight handicaps were implemented by NHRA in 1972. Some 30 years later he came back to run the Nostalgia SS circuit with the car pictured below (shared from the HRM Facebook link) with backing from Mopar performance. IIRC, this very nice looking car was built by Jerry Stein who I posted some stuff about earlier in this thread.

Looking at the wheels on the red A990 65 Plymouth ....that car was probably run after the 71 Pro stocker and before the Nostalgia 64 SS.

Very cool to see a whole series of the Mr. 5 & 50 cars.......I never knew where that name came from.

A couple of shots (shared from the HAMB board) of the SS 'Cuda that Terry Earwood drove to a win in SS at the 1973 NHRA Nationals @ Indy. During the 1973 racing season, Earwood accumulated enough points to win the NHRA championship title in Super Stock. This car, owned by Steve Bagwell, also held the SS/EA national record for several years.

After drag racing for a few years, Earwood went on to road racing (not in Mopars). Steve Bagwell built and raced several other SS Mopars and won several NHRA national events with them.

    Judy Lilly, aka "Miss Mighty Mopar", was a power in NHRA Super Stock racing in the early 70's;

This is the way that the car appeared when I saw her win SS Eliminator at the 1972 NHRA Winternationals.

    Judy Lilliy winning 1972 Winternationals.jpg

Then she won the 1973 Springnationals in this small block powered Duster.......................

Lilly got two more NHRA national event SS wins in 1975 - the Gatornationals and the Fallnationals - in this Duster....

She also just missed becoming the first woman to win a major eliminator @ the NHRA U.S. Nationals when she was runner-up in SS in 1975.

Back in the 60s Nascar had it's own drag racing division which competed with NHRA and AHRA.

    Nascar drag racing ad.jpg

As with NHRA and AHRA, Mopar winners were ubiquitous in Nascar drag racing.

Ray Cook drove this B/SA Dodge Challenger to the NHRA Championship in Stock Eliminator in 1979.

On his way to the championship, Cook won 3 NHRA National events; The Summernationals, the Grand Nationals, and the World Finals.

Originals...................there were letters next to each car stating their history but I couldn't blow them up enough so you could read them on this sight. If you want I can PM them to you.

That's cool that they are original. I used to see Bill Bagshaw testing his cars at the old Irwindale dragstrip.

Most of you know that Allen & Roy Johnson have been racing in NHRA Pro Stock for over 20 years now. Some may not know that Roy Johnson raced Mopar doorslammers for years before that.

Here is a photo (shared from Pinterest) of Roy's Super Stock Challenger. IIRC, he did most of his racing in IHRA back then.

Found some more photos of the Bagwell team cars on Pinterest.

These cars participated in many NHRA events in the 70's and 80's. Steve Bagwell won the 1978 Cajun Nationals and runner-upped 6 other times @ NHRA national events. Team driver Richard Griffin won 3 national events including the Summernationals twice (1980 and 1984). Sorry all - I can no longer remember exactly which of the above cars won which event.
