    I have seen the rubber duckie-type short antennas.
    It may be OK for local FM station reception. It may not do well out of town or on the AM band.

    When I read this, I went back to your Freshly Painted post, and now I see this modern antenna on your car. It would probably also make for a little less wind noise at higher speeds, but I don't think I would notice with my 88 Aries wagon.
