However it fails the dignity test.

No car guy worth his salt would buy this garbage.

This is a potentially game-changing for renewable power generation, as it would allow cheap and efficient storage of solar energy, but it's irrelevant for cars.

The huge problem of hydrogen in vehicles is transport and storage of the fuel itself. Pure hydrogen would be great, except that it needs to be stored at extremely high pressure to provide adequate range, which poses a very high risk of multiple fatalities in the event of a crash. Methanol is commonly used as a safer way of delivering hydrogen, but the process of conversion at both ends wastes energy, and methanol itself is not especially safe (its most dangerous feature is that it burns invisibly). It also produces tailpipe CO2, which is a problem in places where this forms the basis of emissions charges.

Unfortunately, as the synopsis points out, this isn’t quite all that yet. By only utilizing the UV portion of the spectrum, it’s a horribly inefficient means of storing solar energy (the vast majority of sunlight goes unused) but it is a step in the right direction. Hopefully they can work with the catalyst to increase it’s effectiveness, however, if that were easily done, they would have already. This means they’ve hit some kind of serious roadblock.

my take away: don’t dance on EV’s grave just yet.

I'd really like to order a Model 3 or Model Y next year but I don't think the charging infrastructure is quite there yet. Biggest problem for me would be where to charge it if I live in an apartment?

We scheduled a test drive of a 3 thinking we were going to order one, and we absolutely hated it! Here in Georgia, I wasn't worried about charging. There are charging stations at most shopping areas, restaurants and bars. My concern was distance trips. A trip from North Georgia to New Orleans the charging would add 2.5 hours to the trip. That was a deal-breaker. I am waiting on greater range and I'm watching Rivian closely.

What did you hate about it specifically?

I'm interested in the Long Range AWD model because it has 322 miles of range and a 0-60 time of 4.4 seconds.

The word you need there is "or".

Electric vehicles have extremely low overhead energy use, so what you do with your right foot has far more effect on consumption than in a gasoline car that has to burn fuel just to tick over.

We were looking at the long-range AWD model as well. At 322 miles on a longer trip range anxiety would be an issue. For us, I think we would need 400 to 500 miles of range to be viable.

The IP wasn't intuitive. To change the mirrors it was 4 menus deep, so you couldn't do it while driving the same was true for the radio. The back seat is for small children only, and at $55k+ you cannot get a leather interior. Those are just a few things that really annoyed us.

Perhaps, but what you really need to be careful of is the cumulative fart index.

The lower the score, the better. ;)

This is why the addition of super-capacitor technology into EV's would be such a great idea. You get that short burst of "oomph" when you want it.

Did you mean "fall" as in Autumn?
    OR
Did you mean "fall" as in "The Rise and Fall of Elon Musk"?

    Either way...It's
    +1 from me.
