My CJ friends would install waterproof marine radios, if they had one at all. Is the Uconnect waterproof? If so, no problem hosing it all out.

They would just hose out the whole interior, dash and all. Or when those mid summer rain (and snow) storms hit in the afternoon in the Sierras and they left their tops at home it did not matter. Yes, we got hit with a serious snow storm on the Rubicon on August 17 once. 6 inches of new snow.

I couldn't hear the radio in my 98 TJ at highway speeds (and barely at other speeds), so it was pretty useless anyway. Mud/dirt/grime wouldn't have made much of a difference...maybe it would've been an improvement. :D

If you want to hose out the interior indiscriminately, because there is so much mud, then I think you need a Marine Radio.

I don't think the U-Connect would react well to being shot in the face full pressure with a water hose. Nor would the HVAC controls or Instrument cluster and many other electronic modules in the interior. All of those items may have problems if water drips down behind the dash into the openings in the plastic cases for cooling, getting the circuit boards wet.

Are you going to get aftermarket seats that are designed to be "hosed out" as well?

I hate to think of the fungus that will grow in the porous cushions, if you soak the seats on fairly regular basis.

Sadly the world is changing, that true "Mudding" vehicles are less and less allowed on the public roads. They are hobby vehicles that are usually used vehicles highly modified with stripped out interiors only having the basics. And in 2025 "Mudders" are going to have a real challenge trying to get a stripped out, Spartan Jeep, running without all of its extensive electronics just to run the engine and drivetrain.

You are correct. The way it's going to happen is different than I expected...

JT first, with continued production of JK, then JL?

Now that's wishful thinking. But we've seen more test mules of the JL than the JT (JLT?).

As far as we can tell. They have been pretty good about covering them up...

I suspect JL won't be left without the diesel for very long - the diesel is essential for export sales. Right now, you cannot buy a new diesel JK in Europe (outgoing diesel engine doesn't meet Euro6), and diesels account for almost all JK sales here.

On the upside, the lack of new diesel models has had a fantastic effect on residuals - my friend recently sold her now nine-year-old JKU for around 5% more than she paid for it four years ago. It took a while to sell, though: Irish people are wary of Jeeps, because of historical difficulty in getting parts, but that's improved a lot since FIAT took over distribution.

Its been reallly quiet on the JL front since all the 'reveals' regarding axles body material etc. When is the next red meat reveal happening?
