    And safety equipment doesent cost money in the long run, deaths and injuries are costly and theres the pay back.
    - the same goes for emissions, we need clean air to breathe...

    At first glance it seems that the aver. salary has kept up with inflation but there are many factors to consider....
    The cost of housing,rent and ownership. It is much higher then in 1969, there are some pockets of the midwest that aren't so bad but on the coasts it is outragious.
    Then there are some things that some frugal folks would say is a choice...communcation and entetainment costs. Cell phones then you have to have internet access and cable or sattilite.. Depending what you have that stuff may be up to $200 a month or more.

    There are a lot more toys that folks need today. Money is spread thin. Dual incomes required!

    I remember the days when, if your wife worked, you were considered a
    failure.
