When new, the Road Runner's main draw was its lower price, compared to a GTX. The price isn't so low any more.

The cost of the base Road Runner in today's dollars would be around $22,000. A base new Challenger is around $26,400 (MSRP before destination, but with cash incentives). so for an increase in price that isn't near as bad as it seems at first glance. And the Challenger has air conditioning, power brakes, power steering, automatic transmission, radio, and several other items that were optional on the old Road Runner. And that's not to mention comparable performance (383 Road Runner vs 3.6 Challenger), while the Challenger gets better gas mileage and is safer.

There is something about actually driving a car and not having a computer do it for you.
