By the numbers horse power and torqe the 2.4 is towards the top of its competerters.
Many reviews say its noisy and sluggish even with the 9 speed.
In the Journy and other CUVs maby. But I mean the cars, be it the Avenger with the 6 speed or the 200 with the 9 speed compared to the Camry, Malibu and Fusion.

I had a Renegade with the 2.4 and 9 speed as a rental for a week and didn't think it was too bad. I'd consider one when I'm ready to buy again.

The only negative thing I read about that engine with respect to the final year Dodge Avengers was that the 3.6 liter V6 cost about the same and got nearly as good gas mileage as the 2.4. The V6 Avenger SE was a super good deal for under $20,000 in 2014.

    1, Not a quiet engine.
    2, Torque range
    3, Fuel mileage

    All based on current competition.

In my brothers Cherokee it got us from point A to point B with little fuss. I'll take a 1966 225 slant 6 over it any day.

Me too. It was even good enough to have in my D200. My 75 Duster pulled a Winnebago trailer for thousands of miles w/M/T and 5 of us and averaged 20mpg.

    I drove a 2015 200 with the 2.4L MultiAir and 9-speed.
It was a vast improvement over the older, pre-MultiAir engines.
High-output 4-cyls are sporting, but the smoother, quieter Pentastar 6 is also an option.
I might consider a Tigershark after driving it.
