WL - Hurricane or no Hurricane? (Market sizing/speculation)

    The Question Begs with the Death of the Dart & 200 What the Hxxx is Dundee Doing with their Under Utilized Corporate Assets ?
    For Example One Whole Plant there is Doing What ???????????????????????????????????

    The Answer: My Guess is that 1/2 of Dundee Plants are Underutilized ! !
    Do You Know How Close Dundee is to Toledo ? ? ?

    FCA does not want information regarding new product leaked earlier than planned. They have no problem releasing employees that leak information.

    FCA has also changed several procedures to help prevent leaks.

    Totally agree with you. Especially in this day and age. The new "4's" better be very good. Hopefully they will have eliminated all the NVH problems the current ones are plagued with. If not we're in trouble.

    When was the last time Chrysler had a "good" 4 cylinder? In the Neon?

    Even then the was a little rough, though a great performer. I'd say the 2.4 based off it was "better".

    What is there to leak? Everyone knows about this engine. Most have a good idea of the specs. FCA has basically released this engine already in a higher output form. Other then where "our" version will be produced there's not much to leak. When the 3.6 was announced there was much fanfare about it and where it was to be made. We heard well in advance about Trenton engine. But this engine? Crickets.

    No sir, as reported on Allpar, the Alfa version of the engine is based on a similar design but it is not the same engine. Current four cylinders are built at Dundee... that will continue.

    “Well in advance” is the old way, that won’t happen anymore. Leaks are being shut off and press releases are being held until specified dates close to production.

    This has been discussed many times, this is why it is important to protect sources that do provide information to Allpar. Their livelihoods are literally at stake. FCA has very little tolerance for leaked information and very high profile employees have been shown the door in the last year due to unauthorized leaked information.

    I can’t find the email to confirm at the moment, but I am pretty sure that 1.4 FIRE production has ended. They have a good supply of engines still.

    I believe you are correct sir. But supply is still there and as long as they are being sourced from there I am counting it.

    Why is it that the current 2.4 liter four does such an exemplary job in the Ram PMC beating the all the small van competition in both power and fuel economy, but yet in cars it's years behind? It seems there is a herd mentality to belief, especially in the automotive media.

    But FCA already in august 2016 officially wrote about at least one plant where the GME T4 engine.

    "FCA US Announces Nearly $75 Million Investment in Trenton Engine Complex

    April 26, 2016, Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US announced today that it will invest $74.7 million in its Trenton Engine Complex (Mich.) to retool the north plant to produce the next generation four-cylinder engine, retaining 245 jobs. The new engine will be assembled on the flexible production line that was installed in 2012.

    And the ones that will take more attention will note that the PDF file name = "Trenton_GMET4.pdf"

    The commercially named "Hurricane" engine is one of the variants of GME T4 engines (4 cylinders Turbocharged Global Medium Engine).

    There are GME T4 DOHC (Double Over Head Cam) and GME T4 MultiAir (single overhead cam + hydraulic actuators).
    There should be also naturally aspirated GME engines, well at least is what could be supposed from the powertain graphs in investors days presentations.

    To note that FCA is doing what was presented in powertrain presentation at investors day.

    Hopefully the non-Alfa version will be a bit more refined. The Giulia engine is getting a reputation for a rough idle, especially right after startup. While people may be more tolerant of this in an Alfa due to its more exotic roots, that won't cut it in a Jeep, Dodge or Chrysler.

    How is it heard mentality when the 2.4L in the car and SUV applications factually gets worse fuel economy? And let's not even get into NVH.

    I wonder sometimes if the delay with this new engine family has more to do with issues then money. I've heard power and mileage are not where they want them to be. With that said, do customers want a repeat of the global engine fiasco? No not at all, so maybe they really are trying to get this right. I hope so.

    It actually gets lower combined fuel economy than the NV200, and only 1 MPG more city/highway than the Transit Connect, despite have a 9 vs 6 speed transmission. Plus, NVH and drivability problems are a lot more acceptable in a work van, than a passenger car. I kind of expect a work van to be noisy, buzzy with a weird and lumpy power delivery. That sort of stuff doesn't fly in a $35,000 car.
