They care about heritage for Fiat and Alfa. Not so much for the American brands.

That freaking stinks. That's my favorite place on the planet. I miss the good old days especially this time of year when they had cars trees and traditions.

I've always wanted to visit this

I was hoping when I went to the NAIAS in 2017 I would be able to do it, I guess not.

    :(

I'm sure you'll feel a whole lot better once we start seeing the Alfa-derived USA RWD cars shortly.

So, Mopar22, it's not actually the closing of the Museum; it's the opening of new vistas. [/sarc]

Alfa wears off very quickly once you've seen a couple of them running around and the first one you saw was Ralphs when parked

I mean i could technically go if i stayed a couple days after classes ended.

    * If they don't know what to do with the cars, I will gladly take them.. I will give anyone here a car too.. Just not the ones I want lol.. .I am not greedy, just needy !

They won't sell them; in corporate terms, the whole collection isn't worth selling. What would it raise? $100 million? That's nothing in the grand scheme of FCA, but they'd lose the advertising value of the cars. Just because the public can't see them, it doesn't mean they don't have value.

This happened to Alfa Romeo too. Maintaining a museum is expensive, and I'd imagine that visitor numbers to the WPC are pretty low. Once you go to "open by appointment only" you lose even more visitors.

Alfa Romeo's museum suffered a similar fate (the manufacturing facility it was part of at Arese closed, and the area became neglected while redevelopment plans were made), and was closed for nearly a decade, but the collection was maintained. It reopened in 2015, but this was mainly because Milan hosted the International Expo that year, and the additional visitor numbers and improved transport links from the city made it viable to reopen.

The big disadvantage it faces is that the WPC museum is not in a part of the US that gets huge amounts of visitors on business or tourism. I'd love to see the collection, but it's so far off the beaten track for me as a tourist that I'd never see it. Detroit is, I'm sure, a fine city, but if I've only got two weeks in the country, does it make the cut?

There is more to heritage than a museum. This is just the latest example that the European brand heritage must be maintained while the American brand heritage doesn't matter as long as the profits roll in. Jeep watered down, Dodge heritage squandered by removing Ram, Chrysler vision-less.
