Treasury cuts lobbyist access

by David Zatz on

On his first day as President, Barack Obama placed severe restrictions on lobbyists to the White House. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner echoed this act in his own first day, with new rules that restrict contact with lobbyists seeking Federal aid under the $700 billion rescue bill which both GM and Chrysler have drawn on. The former Treasury Secretary had been criticized by members of both major parties for refusing to divulge details on how money was being spent, and on spending rescue funds unwisely.
