Chrysler slid to an unusual #4 position in Canada for 2009, due largely to bankruptcy publicity and a paucity of cars to sell for part of the year. Chrysler slid 27% in sales and GM slid 29% in sales for the year, while Ford gained 6%, Hyundai-Kia gained 26%, Honda slid 18%, and Toyota dropped 8%.

Despite losing nearly a third of its sales, the mighty General Motors retained first place with 252,715 vehicles, a comfortable lead over #2 Toyota which had 205,115.  Number Three was Ford, which benefited both from smarter financial planning and a nasty whisper campaign; Ford tallied 231,401 sales, beating Chrysler's 163,166 by a huge margin. Chrysler ended up not only losing its old #2 position but landed close to Hyundai-Kia (149,351) which in the past was a minor player. Honda dropped down below Hyundai with 140,000 sales. No other automaker made it to 100,000.

In 2008, the mighty General Motors had first place with 356,740 vehicles, a comfortable lead over second-best Toyota, which overtook Chrysler with 224,158 compared to Chrysler's 222,996 sales; Ford was #4 with 219,264 sales while Honda landed 171,357 sales.
