Dodge launches Hero minivanby David Zatz on February 10, 2010 at 4:48 pm EST Dodge is launching a new Hero level Dodge Caravan minivan, starting at $25,675. The van is essentially a trim package, one step above SE but not at SXT; it includes a 3.8 liter engine, Stow ‘n’ Go seats, power second row windows and third row vents, a bright center stack, audio controls on the wheel, tachometer, 16 inch aluminum wheels, stability control, climate control, roof-rack, leather-wrapped steering wheel, satellite radio, and numerous other features. The Hero is essentially replacing the SE model with the 24G customer preferred option package. It includes all the 2009 SE 24G features as well as the upgraded engine with six-speed automatic, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, steering-wheel audio controls, satellite radio, and roof rack. The price is around $610 higher than the less fully featured, four-speed-automatic, 3.3-powered outgoing package. A premium console is also available as an option; it was not on the prior model. Dodge estimates the value of the new standard content at $1,280, so the Hero effectively provides a $670 discount. The SE (24E) will remain at $23,995, and the SXT “K” package remains at $27,550. The Hero package is now available for dealer orders. The Dodge Caravan was rated “most reliable van” by J.D. Power and has a five star safety rating.
