According to dealers and sources inside Chrysler, the replacement car for the current Sebring will also have a replacement name: Nassau, taken from the 2007 Chrysler concept car . There's only one problem: According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the company doesn't own the name.

Chrysler Nassau

According to federal records accessed this morning, the Nassau trademark for automobiles is owned by Chrysler LLC, the former entity owned by Cerberus Capital Management. Unlike other trademarks, it was not picked up by Chrysler Group LLC, the current incarnation, so it would seem to be part of the assets being liquidated by Old Carco under the supervision of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.

The most recent Chrysler Group filing for a new name is " Citadel ," the name used for the 2000 concept that inspired the Pacifica. That application was filed in March of this year and was not an assignment of an existing mark from either Daimler AG or Chrysler LLC. The application is so new, it hasn't even been assigned to a reviewing attorney.

The Nassau trademark could be acquired from Old Carco in plenty of time for the late 2010 rollout, but one wonders what the Citadel might be?
