Marchionne speaks to dealers in Orlando

Chrysler Group CEO Sergio Marchionne was the keynote speaker at the 2010 Dealer Announcement Show in Orlando, Florida. These are excerpts from his speech. The brand CEOs of Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram Truck, Fiat and Mopar brand heads each addressed the dealer gathering

More than 75 percent of Chrysler Group’s 2,314 U.S. dealers attended the its event. This was the company’s first announcement show since 2007. In addition to the large US. contingent, about 700 dealers from Canada, Mexico and Chrysler Group’s international markets also traveled to Orlando for the event from as far away as Moscow, Cairo, Shanghai, Dubai and Santiago.

Michael Maroone, President and COO of AutoNation, America’s largest automobile retailer, was enthusiastic about the new lineup.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler.
