Jeep Wrangler anniversary model due

by David Zatz on

jeep five year plan

Jeep is due to gain a 70th anniversary model during 2011, according to the Five Year Plan. Nothing is known about this yet, except that Sergio Marchionne said that Wrangler will “retain its rightful spot as the icon for this legendary brand.” As we reported in late 2009:

Exterior styling will be modified and a dramatic new interior will be put in; Pentastar V6 arrives in model-year 2012. 2011 is Jeep’s 70th anniversary and special editions will be made for each model [Arctic appears to be one of them]. There will be new derivatives and special models based on the Wrangler.

Jeep Wrangler is the only vehicle that Jeep CEO Mike Manley specifically said must have “excellent off-road characteristics.” This does not, however, require that other Jeeps will forsake off road worthiness.

The special editions are likely to be mainly cosmetic packages — badges, perhaps special paint colors, and such. The Pentastar V6 is not likely to be installed until model-year 2012, after the anniversary year.

Update: reliable source oh2o wrote, “Order banks for the 70th anniversary models will open on January 13th, it’s possible they will unveil/show them at NAIAS.”
