Marchionne confirms Jeep-based Maserati

by David Zatz on

Sergio Marchionne confirmed a Jeep Grand Cherokee-based Maserati will be made at the Jefferson Avenue plant. The sport-SUV will have either a Ferrari V8 or a Ferrari V12, maybe offering buyers a choice of engines; a “souped up diesel” may also be available (Marchionne may have been joking when he said that.) While no date has been mentioned for its launch, 2013 would seem likely.

Marchionne has mentioned the possibility of this vehicle before, praising the Grand Cherokee’s architecture, but noted that the Maserati version would have numerous differences.
