Nearly all 2011 Dodge Challenger configurations beat their 2010 counterparts in gas mileage, though power has increased.

United States EPA testing revealed that the Challenger SE gained 2 highway mpg over the 2010 model, along with 55 horsepower and 16 lb-ft of torque. The Challenger R/T also gained two miles per gallon in automatic-transmission form, though the manual-transmission version stayed at 2010 figures.

The hot 392 Hemi version, boasting 470 horsepower, beat 2010 gas mileage figures with either transmission. The five-speed automatic yielded 14 city, 22 highway, easily beating 2010’s 13/19. The manual edged by the 2010, with 23 mpg highway vs 22. The extra power of the new engine is offset by the use of cylinder deactivation technology.

Eight-speed automatics were expected for the 2012 model year, but will reportedly not be available for launch, according to reliable source oh2o.
