Chrysler apologizes for “inappropriate” Tweet

An avalanche of attention was focused on Chrysler’s official Twitter page after the following Tweet was posted using the @ChryslerAutos account: “I find it ironic that Detroit is known as the #motorcity and yet no one here knows how to f***ing drive.”

The comment was removed and the company issued the following statement: “This morning an inappropriate comment was issued from the Chrysler brand Twitter handle, @ChryslerAutos, via our social media agency of record, New Media Strategies (NMS). After further investigation, it was discovered that the statement was issued by an NMS employee, who has since been terminated.

“Chrysler Group and its brands do not tolerate inappropriate language or behavior and apologize to anyone who may have been offended by this communication.

“Furthermore, the Company has set in place appropriate steps to ensure that this does not happen again.”

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for just-auto.com, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler.
