Rams may face tie-rod recall

by David Zatz on

The NHTSA has opened a preliminary investigation into the 2008-2011 Ram heavy duty (2500 and 3500) pickups, due to 12 complaints about outer tie rod failures. A similar issue resulted in a recall of Ram 4500 and 5500 chassis cabs.

There are around 160,000 2008-11 Ram heavy duty pickups on the road today, but if the issue is a design or parts flaw, more failures could be possible. The failures reported so far represent around 0.0075% of the trucks sold, though other trucks may have had unreported issues.
