Bantam Jeep Festival in PA

The Bantam Jeep Heritage Festival on August 12-14 in Butler, PA will attempt a world record for the largest Jeep parade; over 1,000 Jeeps are already registered. There will also be trail rides, music, a “little Jeepers’ playground,” historical talks, and demonstrations. Jeep itself is one sponsor of the festival.

When the innovative vehicle was first created, in a surprisingly brief time, Bantam was on the verge of bankruptcy. The small size of the company led the military to provide its design to several larger outfits for modifications; Willys won that round with its tough, lightweight prototype, powered by a sturdy, relatively powerful engine, resulting in the Willys MA and MB, and similar vehicles made by Ford using a design adapted from Willys. Butler is north of Pittsburth and southeast of Youngstown, close to the Ohio border. It is convenient to Interstates 76, 79, and 80.
