Supercharged SRT coming?

by David Zatz on claims to have a scoop on a Mopar Performance supercharger due in late calendar-year 2012, for 2013 model year cars. The dual screw kit will, they claim, be available as a factory-order option for the SRT8 versions of the Charger, Challenger, and 300C — but not for the Grand Cherokee or Durango.

The supercharger will, according to the article, boost horsepower to the 540-570 hp range, though we’ve noticed that leaked horsepower ranges are almost invariably on the high side, so it could come in at 500 hp in the end. (Issues involve whether initial horsepower tests are done by SAE standards, durability and emissions changes, and downrating to account for manufacturing variability.)

The 2012 Camaro ZL1 and Mustang GT500 will both be supercharged. To date, Dodge has not attempted to match the wide range of Mustang variants, but financial constraints may be easing.

The upgrade will reportedly be available with the eight-speed ZF automatic, according to the account. MotorAuthority also suggested that the supercharger would be available for retrofitting. Mopar has, in the past, sold aftermarket superchargers, but not for street-legal use.
