2012 Wranglers available; production data

by David Zatz on

2012 Jeep Wranglers can now be ordered, according to American and Canadian dealers (thanks, Darryl.)

Chrysler has released its production data for July 2011, showing a large increase over 2010. Year to date, Chrysler made 1.14 million vehicles in 2011; in the same period in 2010, Chrysler made under 900,000.

Some models fared better than others. 200 production year to date is nearly triple Sebring production in 2010 (with a three-to-one sedan-to-convertible ratio in 2010, but, due to late launch, around six-to-one in 2011). Avenger production, however, is not far above 2010, and Calibers are down. Chrysler has pumped out over 56,000 Chargers so far (a small decrease from 2010), over 25,000 Challengers (a small increase), and nearly 32,000 300s (a mild increase). Overall, 6,000 more LX cars were made so far compared with the same period in 2010.

Fiat 500 production has been surprisingly high, with 30,300 made so far — just 3,523 are the late-launch convertibles. Overall, passenger car production has increased from 215,463 to 291,922 year to date; comparing month to month, from 13,279 to 35,718 (only 4,445 of those are 500s). Every car Chrysler makes, other than Avenger, saw a sizeable bump, July 2011 to July 2010.

Dodge truck production also rose, moving from 124,768 2010 year-to-date to 185,389 in the U.S., and from 65,257 to 83,273 in Mexico. Jeep production rose from 226,078 to 342,631; while not broken out, it seems likely that every model was hiked up, save perhaps for Liberty.

Journey production fell, unless one includes the Fiat Freemont, in which case there was a moderate bump to just over 75,000 crossovers. The newly redesigned car is the best selling crossover in Canada and a surprise hit in Italy, but sales remain relatively tepid in the U.S.

Minivan production has seen a mild increase in the proportion of Dodges; at this time Dodge anchors the low-to-medium price range and Chrysler picks up at around the range of the most expensive Dodge. Chrysler made nearly 61,000 Chryslers, over 94,000 Dodges, and 11,148 Volkswagen Routans year to date; Routan production remained the same, Dodge production rose slightly, and Chrysler production fell by around 16,000 minivans, so that overall minivan production is down by around 14,400 vehicles.

Finally, PT Cruiser production, year to date, fell from 11,083 to zero.
