Mexico chief steps down: confirmed

by David Zatz on

On October 12, 2011, Allpar broke the story that Victor Villanueva, head of Fiat Auto in Mexico, had left the company. Automotive News has now confirmed that story, noting that his duties will be divided among the directors of sales/service, marketing/advertising, and dealer development, who will report to Fred Diaz, head of Chrysler Mexico.

According to a source in the company, the parting was not amicable. Fred Diaz allegedly asked for the keys to Villanueva’s car and office, handed him a severance check, and told him to leave immediately. Villanueva was reportedly told to get his personal effects, which were already boxed up, the next day.

Allpar was unable to confirm or deny the story through official channels. However, Chrysler spokesman Ariel Gavilan confirmed part of the story with Automotive News.
