Chrysler November sales soar 45%; beat estimates

by Bill Cawthon on

Chrysler was first to report its November sales and with good reason: the company’s sales skyrocketed 45% in November, blowing past the most optimistic analyst estimates. Volume totaled 107,172 cars and trucks and represents best year-over-year sales gain in 2011.

Retail sales jumped 51%. November was the sixth-consecutive month of sales gains of at least 20%. Chrysler Group sales have beaten the average industry sales increase in ten months of this year.

The Chrysler 300 full-size and Chrysler 200 mid-size sedans stood out in the sales figures, along with Dodge Charger, Dodge Avenger, Dodge Durango, Jeep® Compass, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. All brands other than Fiat (which has no sales history for 2010) posted sales increases, year-to-year.

Chrysler Group finished the month with a 78-day supply of inventory (333,218 units). U.S. industry sales figures for November are projected at an estimated 13.8 million SAAR.

November 2011 U.S. Sales Highlights by Brand

The Chrysler 300 posted a solid 215% sales increase. The Chrysler 200 finished November 496% ahead of last year’s Sebring.

Jeep® Brand: Jeep sales were up 50% percent in November, the brand’s best November sales performance since 2003 and its 19th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. All Jeep brand models posted sales gains in November. Compass logged the largest sales increase: an imposing 887% sales explosion after its complete restyling. The Wrangler set another monthly sales record in November with sales up 41%; the sixth-consecutive monthly record this year.

Dodge Brand: The Dodge brand jumped 43% compared to November 2010 with both Charger and Avenger sales more than doubled. Dodge Journey rose 38%.

Ram Truck Brand: Ram pickup truck sales increased 8%, the best November since 2007 for the critical truck.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for just-auto.com, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
