CNG Rams coming in June?

by David Zatz on

In September 2011, Allpar reported on a CNG Hemi configuration that appeared to be available for certain Ram trucks, for fleet use only.

CNG Ram (actually this is a gas Hemi)

According to forums member Hemikota:

Donlen Fleet says that Ram is scheduled to start producing 2,500 pickups with natural gas on 6/22/12. I am glad to see this, as I worked for a natural gas distribution co. and was involved with the program they had in the 1990s. I think Chrysler had the best system, at that time, of the big three. As of now it is not as easy to get fueling for these vehicles as it is for gasoline, but in some areas, there are enough stations to make it feasible for non fleets. The OEM systems seemed to work a lot better then the aftermarket and it was easier to get problems resolved when they popped up.

The system would, according to Bob Lee (quoted in Fleets and Fuels), be a Chrysler technology, not Fiat’s system. CNG fueling depots were up at three different proving grounds (two in Michigan, one in Arizona) for testing.
