Chrysler sales rise 34%, beat February

by David Zatz on

Chrysler reported its best monthly sales since March 2008, and the 24th consecutive month of year over year sales gains — the tenth month with sales gains of at least 20%. Every brand posted sales increases, with Chrysler brand up 70%.

Chrysler 200, Dodge Challenger, Dodge Journey, and Fiat 500 all set monthly sales records, and both minivans had double digit sales gains. The only current model to lose compared wtih March 2011 was the Dodge Caliber, which fell 40% (1,508 cars), a number that was made up for with gains in Compass (+284) and Patriot (+1277). Fiat 500 sold 3,712 units, not a bad showing for a new brand with a dubious reputation and a limited number of dealers.

For the first quarter, sales are similar: current models all show increases except for Caliber, which is down 45%, while Compass and Patriot gains more than make up for the difference. Quarter to quarter, Chrysler is up 39% (89% in cars, 24% in trucks/MPVs).
