Dodge Dart R/T coming in August

by David Zatz on

Dodge has not yet released the gas mileage figures for the Dodge Dart R/T, but some dealers report they can now order the car (others report it is still closed). The only Dart with the new 2.4 liter MultiAir engine, the Dart will be sold with either a six speed manual or six speed automatic. It is rated for higher horsepower than the 1.4 Turbo, but lower torque; it is expected to have more power at low engine speeds.

The Dart R/T comes with a standard “blackened” look. All R/T models available have leather seats, in black or black-and-red. Full details are at’s model-and-price listing.

Some options include 17 x 6.5 steel wheels, Alpine speakers with subwoofer, HID headlamps, the illuminated tail-lamp surround, and the technology group, which includes Chrysler’s blind spot and rear cross path detection system, auto high beams, keyless entry, rain-sensitive wipers, and rear backup control.

Production appears to be slated to start in mid-August, with some options not available until November. (Thanks to oh2o for help with this story.) Some stories suggest that the Dart R/T has been delayed until February, and this might still be the case, either for the R/T in general, or for the R/T automatic. At least one dealer saw the text, “August (July Allocation): Adds R/T with 2.4L MultiAir, and 1.4L Turbo with 6-spd DDCT; LED Racetrack taillamps will be optional on SXT, Rallye and Limited; Standard on R/T. “
