Canada, Mexico sales shoot up

Chrysler de Mexico reported sales of 8,623 vehicles, up 11% from August 2011. Excluding Fiat, the company sold 7,394 vehicles, up 14.5%, with cars rising 13%, minivans up 25%, SUVs up 18%, and trucks up 6%. Chrysler brand rose 5%; Jeep went up 23%, largely on the strength of Compass and Patriot; Dodge rose 16%, including rebadged Hyundais; Ram rose, largely on the strength of rebadged Hyundais, but with growth of Ram Crew Cab of 36.5% as well. Fiat and Alfa Romeo rose 136% with 306 Fiat 500 sales.

Chrysler Canada announced its 33rd consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth, representing the longest sales streak in Chrysler history. August 2012 sales rose 9% from August 2011, to 20,569 — the best year-to date sales since 2000, with 175,017 vehicles sold.

Passenger-car sales were responsible for the rise, going up 84%; that represents 3,202 cars, including 423 Darts.

Chrysler 200 had a strong month, reporting record August sales of 1,052 units, more than doubling sales compared with the same period in 2011. Fiat 500 sold 750 units.

Dodge Journey set an August record with 2,404 sales, a rise of 11%. Since its launch in 2008, Dodge Journey has consistently been the best-selling crossover in the country. Dodge Grand Caravan held its ground as the #4 best-selling vehicle in the country with 5,490 sold in August 2012, slightly higher than August 2011.

The iconic Jeep Wrangler continued to shatter sales records with 1,951 vehicles, helping it to hold onto its spot as the #1 selling compact SUV in the country.

5,464 Ram pickup trucks were sold in the month of August, up 4% and setting an August sales record. Ram continues to be on pace to have a record sales year in 2012; the pickup is the second best selling vehicle in Canada.
