SRT4, 38-mpg 200 shown (updated)

According to our sources, the cars shown at the Las Vegas dealer meeting included both a Dart R/T, which is due to start full production in January 2013 (delayed from August 2012), and a Dart SRT4 (artist’s rendition shown). Update: the SRT4 shown was yellow, with a black hood and wheels. Chrysler has started contrasting colors with some cars, featuring black roofs on other-color bodies.

The new Chrysler 200, though, was reportedly the hit of the show. It will use the ZF 9-speed automatic, unique in its class (and in the world, at first), with the rotary shifter from the Ram. The new Chrysler 200 will have an all wheel drive variant, and may well provide Chrysler with a credible, albeit lower-cost, competitor to the mid-sized Audi, Cadillac, and Lexus.

With the new transmission, the Chrysler 200 is reportedly capable of 38 mpg, highway. It is expected to be at dealers during the first quarter of 2014, but Chrysler’s schedules have often slipped recently as quality is a higher priority than timeliness.
