Jeep diesel a few months away

by David Zatz on

The Jeep Grand Cherokee V6 diesel for North America is due to arrive around February 2013, according to Allpar analyst RVC. The 3.0 liter VM diesel is a substantial improvement on the 3-liter V6 diesel engines supplied by Mercedes for a limited time with the Jeep Liberty; quieter, more powerful (241 vs 215 hp and 406 vs 376 lb-ft, in standard trim), and more fuel-efficient than the Mercedes engines, it was built to conform to North American emissions standards.

VM Motori started supplying Chrysler in 1992 with diesels for European minivans. Today, VM Motori powers several European Chrysler and Jeep cars, as well as the Chevrolet Captiva, London Taxi, and vans. Chrysler uses the VM 2.8 (Wrangler, Voyager, and Cherokee) and 3.0 (Grand Cherokee, 300C/Thema) in Europe. The Maserati Levante is reportedly to use a modified version of the 3.0.
