Top stories of the year

by David Zatz on

Allpar’s top posts of the year were almost all associated with spy shots and rumors, but there were some notable exceptions.

Topping off the list was the spotting of what appeared to be the 2014 Dodge Challenger or SRT Barracuda; we no longer think the Barracuda is “coming soon,” but the next Dodge Challenger is definitely in the works, on a new platform that will finally allow use of the eight-speed automatic.

Next up was our late-April revelation that Ram 1500 would get VM diesel engines in calendar-year 2013; this still appears to be in the works, with no official announcement yet. The hottest month for this story, oddly, was September; unlike most stories, which appear briefly and then quickly fade, this one has attracted a steady stream of visitors.

An accurate (we believe) rendering of the next-generation Jeep Liberty/Cherokee came in third place.

The next article was, unusually, a “repairs” piece: we broke the story on a problem with the Pentastar V6 which afflicted a small proportion of buyers, which, unfortunately, translated to an awful lot of actual people given how many cars use the Pentastar. The problem was already being fixed at Chrysler when we first posted the story, which was quickly picked up by, and greatly expanded on, by Automotive News. This story broke in July, got some viewers into August, and then essentially dropped off the radar.

The top five stories was neatly rounded up by what might have been spy shots of the Dart SRT4 being tested.
