Dodge Journey, Caravan Blacktop coming

by David Zatz on

2013 Dodge Journey Blacktop

The success of the Dodge Charger Blacktop, Challenger Blacktop, and Avenger Blacktop have now resulted in three more Dodge Blacktops: Grand Caravan, Durango, and Journey Blacktop.

The distinct look of the cars is brought by using unique gloss black wheels and “split-crosshair” grilles with matching grille surrounds, darkened headlamp bezels, and interior touches, at relatively low cost.

Dodge Durango Blacktop will start arriving at dealers in the first quarter of 2013. The Journey and Grand Caravan Blacktop editions are slated for the second quarter of 2013.

The blacktop minivan starts with the Dodge Grand Caravan SXT, and adds the 17-inch black-pocket wheels, glossy black grille, and black headlamp bezels and fog lamps (the black bezels are late-availability). Inside, the van goes all-black interior, including the headliner, door panels, and Super Console; silver accent stitching relieves the darkness of the cloth seats, door trim, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. This package costs $595 and is available with silver, black, Maximum Steel, Redline, and Stone White paint. Grand Caravans all have best-in-class 283 horsepower engines, and are rated for 25 miles per gallon (highway).

Dodge Durango buyers need to start with the Rallye or R/T models; the Blacktop package then adds a gloss black grille and 20-inch aluminum wheels with gloss black center caps, for $295. The Rallye interior can be upgraded to the R/T’s trim, with leather and a power 12-way driver’s seat, for $595.   The Durango Blacktop is available in the same colors as the minivan, except using Granite Crystal instead of Maximum Steel.

Dodge Journey Blacktop is available with either four-cylinder or V-6 engines, five- or seven-passenger seating, and front-wheel or all- wheel drive, and on Journeys in bright silver, bright red, black, Red Tri- Coat, white, Pearl White Tri-Coat, and Storm Grey; the Blacktop package adds to the SXT model.

Journey Blacktop includes 19-inch gloss black aluminum wheels and center caps, grille, headlamp bezels, lower front fascia accent, and exterior mirrors, as well as the 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen on the inside. The cost of this package is $995. Buyers have a choice of Journey premium black cloth seats or optional black leather heated seats with a heated steering wheel.

All prices are United States manufacturer’s suggested retail pricing (MSRP).
