Ram ProMaster: world van unveiled

by David Zatz on

Ram ProMaster

Ram has unveiled the full story on the new Ram ProMaster, a well-modified version of the Fiat Ducato. Beefed up to handle much higher payloads than the Fiat, with an all-Chrysler powertrain option, the van looks almost identical to the Fiat on the outside but has been customized to meet American (North and South) needs.

Buyers can choose between the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6, hooked up to the 62TE “minivan automatic,” or Fiat’s four-cylinder, three-liter diesel hooked up to a six-speed automatically-shifted manual transmission. The payload and towing capacity are both over 5,000 pounds.

There are three basic versions being sold: a commercial van (with several different interior options, two heights, three lengths, and three capacity groups), a chassis cab, and a cutaway version.

For full details, the engineering story, American adaptations, specifications, and how close Allpar was in predicting what we saw, see our 2014 Ram ProMaster page.
