2014 Cherokee: it’s official

by David Zatz on

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee was officially unveiled this morning at 12:01 am. While the appearance is not far from spy shots posted by, the official release includes full powertrain and drivetrain information.

As Allpar had reported in the weeks and months prior to the release, the V6 engine for the Cherokee will be the 3.2 liter V6, in its first outing, with 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. The base engine is the four-cylinder TigerShark, with the same 184 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque specified for the same engine in the Dodge Dart. A single transmission is used, a nine-speed automatic; three four wheel drive systems are available, two of which have a low gear and neutral range. The Trailhawk also has a locking rear differential.

Off-road specifications for the Cherokee Trailhawk model, the only one that is Trail rated, are similar to those of the Trail Rated Patriot and the 2011 Trail Rated Liberty (except approach angle with air dam off), and are well below those of the 1984-2001 Jeep Cherokee.  Sophisticated traction control systems have an automatic setting as well as specific programs for sporty driving, sand/mud, snow, rock crawling.

A huge range of other features include the configurable gauge cluster, hill speed control, parallel/perpendicular assisted-parking capability, an 8.4 inch or 5 inch touch-screen stereo with all the latest geegaws, variable displacement a/c compressor, automatic temperature control, dual-pane sunroof or huge SkySlider open-air sunroof, and cargo management system.
