Cherokee diesels, manuals coming to EU

by David Zatz on

Reliable source oh2o wrote that the 2014 Jeep Cherokee will be made with a manual transmission and diesel engine for Europe, where both powertrain options are far more popular than in the United States. Fuel prices in Europe are far higher than in North America.

An automatic transmission diesel option, with stop-start technology, will be launched late in the year.  The manual-diesel setup is due to launch in the summer of 2013.

Neither the diesel nor the manual transmission is currently planned for North American consumption, though if American fuel prices rise and the Grand Cherokee diesel proves to be popular, the diesel is possible. The manual transmission is unlikely to be sold in North America, because very few buyers order them.
