Creating the Mopar logo

While working as marketing manager for Chrysler around 1964, 31-year-old George Robinson was asked to design a new logo and packaging line for the new products that Chrysler was going to introduce into the aftermarket, including parts other than Chrysler parts. Mr. Robinson wrote, “In designing a new image for this broad market, a mechanical, contemporary concept was desired, different from any past letter or word. The ‘circle’ implied the shelf impact in look, evolving into the ‘rolling M,’ as it was termed, and remains unchanged to date.”

The Mopar logo had changed numerous times since its launch, but the “rolling M” or, as it is more often called, the “Omega M,” would continue for nearly five decades, to the present day, with its new look. The current form of the stylized M with the word MOPAR beneath was adopted in 2002, and is nearly identical to the 1964-71 form except that the M is now blue (rather than red) and the “M” is larger, the word “Mopar” smaller.
