Routans roll at Windsor

by David Zatz on

Routan

Chrysler’s Windsor, Ontario plant made its final run of 1,500 Volkswagen Routan minivans last week, ending contract commitments between the two companies.

Routan started out as a retuned, reskinned version of Chrysler Town & Country; some reviewers preferred its sportier suspension tuning and surprisingly Volkswagen-like styling to the other 2008-2010 Chrysler minivans. When Chrysler went to its 2011 refresh, Routan remained largely the same, down to the original dashboards (upgraded in the Chrysler and Dodge versions), though it, too, was upgraded to the Pentastar V6.

Volkswagen’s version of the minivan was relatively pricey, and did not have the Stow ‘n’ Go seating, but did come with Chrysler’s top of the line trim. The full list of changes were exterior and interior styling; seats; dashboard; window controls; interior surfaces; steering wheel and carpet; no under-stack storage space or Stow ‘n’ Go; features and options; springs; wheels; and tires.

Months ago, many media outlets reported prematurely that Routan production had permanently ended. (Thanks, Cdnautowrkr444)
