2014 Durango: same price, better value

by David Zatz on

Following Chrysler’s post-Fiat custom of adding standard features to provide more value, rather than dropping prices, Dodge has released pricing for the new Durango, including what they call “$3,500 added value” over the 2013 models. The Durango maintains the same price as last year, but adds a standard eight-speed automatic with paddle shifters, UConnect Bluetooth, five-inch UConnect touch-screen stereo, seven-inch customizable gauges, LED race-track tail-lamps, and standard three-row, seven-passenger seats. The entry price is $29,795 plus $995 destination.

2014 Dodge Durango

Set to hit dealers in the third quarter, the Durango is in one of the fastest growing segments in America: full-size SUVs and crossovers. The Durango has best in class power with the Hemi engine (360 hp/390 lb-ft) and best in class towing (7,400 lb), and has had nine months of consecutive growth.

The base model is the SXT, which includes the 290-horsepower V6 engine with the eight-speed automatic; this combination is good for up to 25 mpg highway, for 600 gallons per tank. The SXT comes with trailer sway control, speed-sensitive variable intermittent wipers, four-wheel antilock disk brakes, 18-inch wheels, and numerous other features. The triple-zone thermostatic temperature control uses infra-red sensors and rear seat outlets, with air filtering; a tilt-telescoping steering wheel has audio, speed, EVIC, and phone controls.

Rallye builds off the SXT and adds the Durango R/T’s exterior design cues and an extra 5 horsepower, with dual-exhaust, 20-inch black aluminum wheels, and headlamp bezels, body-color front and rear lower fascias, wheel flares, and sill moldings. The interior has black cloth seats and headliner, power driver seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Buyers can opt for second-row captain’s chairs, second-row center console, 8.4-inch UConnect Access Via Mobile, heated seats and steering wheel, and other options. This level adds around $3,200 to the SXT.

Limited replaces the old Crew, and adds polished aluminum wheels, LED daytime running lamps, signal repeater mirrors, the new 8.4-inch Uconnect Access Via Mobile, leather seating, heated steering wheel and first- and second-row seats, 12-way power driver seat with memory and power four-way lumbar adjustment, 10-way power front passenger seat, remote start, rear park assist,  rear backup camera, tire-pressure monitoring, alarm, power folding auto-dimming mirrors with memory, universal transceiver, and 115-volt AC. The Hemi becomes optional at this level, along with a new Blu-Ray rear seat entertainment system with dual screens and HDMI input. Limited adds $3,000 to Rallye, totalling $36,990 including destination charge.

R/T comes with the standard Hemi, sport tuned suspension and exhaust, 20-inch wheels with performance tires, and a 20mm lower ride height; the leather interior is standard, with heated first- and second-row seats, 8.4-inch Uconnect, and heated steering wheel. A premium Nappa Leather Group adds heated and ventilated front seats.  The Durango R/T also features a standard 506-watt premium audio system with nine speakers and a subwoofer, power liftgate, and HID headlamps. The 2014 Dodge Durango R/T has a starting U.S. MSRP of $39,990 (including destination).

Citadel has perforated Nappa leather, heated and ventilated front seats and heated rear seats, Uconnect Access with streaming Internet radio, remote start, 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, a unique grille with chrome surround and texture, power sunroof, automatic high-beam headlamps, rain-sensitive front wipers, power tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, power liftgate, and other features. It starts at $41,990 with destination.
