Dodge takes top 12 in CT-NASCAR

by David Zatz on

Dodge drivers claimed the Top 12 spots at the 2013 Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres last weekend, a race that saw 30,000 spectators, five caution flags, and a special entry by Quebec’s famed former Formula One champion in the historic Canadian city.

When the checkered flag waved, No. 17 Dodge D.J. Kennington had won his first NASCAR Canadian Tire Series race of the 2013 season. The St. Thomas, Ontario native edged out two Quebecers for the win: Andrew Ranger in the No. 27 Dodge and former F1 and  IndyCar Series champion Jacques Villeneuve, making a special appearance in the No. 24 Dodge.

“To beat those two guys on a road course is right up there in my career,” said Kennington. “They are two of the best in the world in my estimation. It’s really special. With [Ranger, a four-time Trois-Rivieres winner] starting in the rear and getting to the front, we might have been in trouble if he started on the pole.”

A fan favorite, Villeneuve led a race-high 29 laps and finished third for his best finish in three career Canadian Tire Series starts. The former open-wheel champ said, “These are fun cars to drive and this is a fun little track. This event is important to Quebec and Canada. It has provided drivers, including me, the stage to further their careers.”

No. 22 Dodge driver Scott Steckly, Kennington, and No. 3 Dodge driver Jason Hathaway now lead the points standings.
