Cherokee tires and tow hooks

by David Zatz on

Jim Morrison with Grand Cherokee

At a recent event, Jeep’s Jim Morrison talked about the reasons for using different brand tires on different Cherokee models (shortages as tire makers have been reluctant to ramp up production), the Firestones on Trailhawk (quiet with good traction on and off road), and the tow hooks in the new SUV.

The red-painted tow hooks in Trailhawk can handle one and a half times the Cherokee’s gross vehicle weight; as with other Jeeps, there are two in front and just one in rear, because the rear one can “reach” most rearward angles, while the fronts are more restricted. The rear hook is angled so it can pull from both sides.

Note: Jim Morrison is shown with a Grand Cherokee in this image.
